Duct Sizing

DUCTSIZE PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Elite Software DUCTSIZE Program quickly calculates optimal duct sizes using either the static regain, equal friction, or constant velocity method. The calculated duct sizes can be printed on a round, rectangular, and flat oval basis. Noise levels and required attenuation are printed for each runout duct. A library of fan data for noise calculations is built into the program. Additionally, a bill of materials with both labor and material costs can be printed. DUCTSIZE allows up to 500 duct sections, and is suitable for both constant volume and VAV systems as diversity is accounted for. Input data is entered using convenient "fill in the blank" screens. Optionally, input data can be taken directly from a duct drawing file created in AutoCAD by the Softdesk HVAC drawing system. DUCTSIZE also has an option for specifying duct height and width constraints to control sizes. This feature is also useful for analyzing problems in existing systems where the duct sizes are already specified.

THREE VERSIONS AVAILABLE

The DUCTSIZE Program can be obtained in three forms: demo, equal friction only, and static regain. The static regain version of DUCTSIZE costs $495, and it provides three sizing methods: static regain, equal friction, and constant velocity. The equal friction version of the program costs $295, and it provides two methods of sizing: equal friction and constant velocity. For more information on the demo version please read DEMONSTRATION DISKS below

DEMONSTRATION DISKS

If you would like to evaluate the DUCTSIZE program in further detail you can download a demonstration copy from our website, or order a copy, with complete documentation. The demonstration copies retain all the functionality of the full programs, they are just limited on the size of the project data that can be entered. Please follow this link for a description of the demonstration limits for the DUCTSIZE program.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

DUCTSIZE requires an IBM compatible computer with at least 512K of memory and the PCDOS/MSDOS operating system. The computer must have either two floppy disk drives or one hard disk drive and a floppy drive.

CALCULATION METHOD

The DUCTSIZE Program is based on the design procedures given in the 1993 ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals and the 1981 SMACNA HVAC Systems Duct Design manual. The program can calculate using either the static regain, equal friction, or constant velocity methods. The user's manual gives detailed information on the exact equations used, and explains how to manually verify program results.

PROGRAM INPUT

The DUCTSIZE program uses full screen editing features that provide a simple "fill in the blank" input procedure. All input data is checked at the time of entry so that no improper data can be entered. If you have a question about what the program is requesting, you can press the "?" key which allows the program to offer additional explanations about the input data being requested. Upon completion of the input process, all data is saved to disk and can be reviewed and edited whenever desired. Four types of data are requested: general project data, system and fan data, trunk data, and runout data. The general project data includes the project name, location, client name, duct material, desired sizing method, and more. The fan system data includes the fan type, minimum and maximum allowable air velocities, desired noise levels and more. The trunk and runout data includes such information as duct length, connection numbers, material type, insulation R-values, fitting quantities, runout cfm values, and any duct height and width constraints. Input sheets are provided for the easy data entry.

PROGRAM OUTPUT

The DUCTSIZE Program provides four basic output reports: general project data, trunk and runout sizing information, noise analysis, and a bill of materials with complete cost data. In addition to these reports, the built-in library data for duct materials, fans, fittings, and costs can be printed.
